Before we dive into the file formats there are 2 concepts we should keep in mind.
- Design Thumbnails
- Design Files
Design thumbnails are jpeg images uploaded in a specific file format with some limitations in dimensions and file size which is meant for showcasing the images on the website. These are the images which will be displayed on the product pages. These are not the original design files. Thumbnails are uploaded when uploading a new design. Optionally, sellers also have an option to upload design files when editing each design.
Design files are the original design files which contain the original design files. These files are meant for editing and it is the final product which the customers will be purchasing from you. These design files may have the following formats:
- SCANNED JPG
PSD, AI, CDR & TIFF are expected to have layered editable files. Layered editable files usually have a lot of depth with separatable layers. These layers alow the customer to modify the element positions and colors in the best way possible.
Scanned JPG format implies, the design has been scanned from a raw artwork or painting. JPG format implies its aplain JPG files designed graphically. Scanned JPG is not to be confused with JPG format. Scanned JPG has a requirement of actually being scanned. The DPI of scanning must be equal to the actual DPI mentioned in the File edit section.
We have noticed the industry to accept high quality PSD and AI files as the most acceptable form in design industry. Adobe files usually are universally accepted. Other formats such as EPS which were previously used are no more used in design industry. If you have other file formats in above you can convert them to the above formats or contact firstname.lastname@example.org for discussion on uploading other formats.
