A Textile Surface Designers Work from Home Office | Creativity Amid Chaos

While the Corona pandemic persists, the world has moved on. Nevertheless, for a textile surface designer, chaos continues to weave in stronger. You got a slice of the slow-paced life and a much-deserved break while the world was adjusting to circumstances. But as workplaces embrace remote working in full vigor during the "Unlock phase", the work-life balance appears to be weighing under tight deadlines and client expectations. The prevailing chaos is taking a toll on our creativity. Here are some tips that will enhance your productivity while you work-from-home.

Set daily goals

A habit of setting daily goals can help you sail through most of the situations in life. You can plan your goals the previous night. Cover personal as well as work aspects while listing your goals out. Make sure the goals you chalk out are clear and attainable.

Designate your work-station

None of us imagined that remote-working would last this long. You must have thoroughly enjoyed executing your projects from the couch, the dining table, and all the cozy nooks of our homes. But this work-style may be impeding your efficiency. As a textile surface designer, you need to have a designated workstation at home. This will help stay organized and focused, and manage deliverables on time.

Identify your optimal productive time

A textile surface designer can thrive while working remotely. You may be most productive early in the day or late at night.  It only takes a few hours to give your best work. You just need to tap your optimal productive time, and the rest of the day is for you to enjoy!

Schedule breaks

Do you often find yourself staring at the on-going design for hours, with no clue of the passing time? There is a simple solution to this challenge. Schedule one or two breaks during your work hours. Try juggling a ball or tossing a yo-yo. Just get your eyes off the screen. Keep the breaks under 10-15 minutes.

Collaborate Efficiently

Technology has come to the rescue for many professionals working from home, especially designers and freelancers. Remote team collaborations have become more efficient with the help of new applications and software. Some of the popular applications to try out are Google Meet (virtual meetings), Trello (work-flow and project management), Miro and Jamboard (whiteboard and visual collaboration tools).

Set Clear Expectations regarding your schedule

You should communicate your daily availability to clients and colleagues. Unlike office-hours, working from home brings out the possibility of different time schedules. Block out the time that you will be unavailable due to meals or chores in advance so that you can accomplish personal tasks.

Social media Timeout

There is a sea of inspiration flooding social media platforms. You do spot trends, user expectations, and market insights on social media as well. But it is crucial to strike a balance between inspiration and productivity. Limit the time spent on social media. Try to avoid using social media while your design is underway. This will bring out your highest potential to be original.

Don't miss out

Work-from-home life presents an unprecedented opportunity to attain personal goals like making healthy lifestyle choices, spending quality time with family, and learning new skills. Don't miss out on these opportunities for personal growth. Make sure you sustain these choices, despite the work-pressure in the "Unlock phase".

A textile surface designer can find it challenging to get focused and productive in the home environment. There are many distractions and personal commitments that slow down a smooth flow of design and creative thinking. If you are unable to browse for textile design inspirations you could browse the large collection of surface prints here. The mindset and skill set for working from home do not come naturally to many. But you can easily get in the groove of giving your best from home, with a little planning and determination.
