Fashion is all that you do, eat and breathe.  To stay ahead of your fashion games, you must bring innovative design and patterns to your platter every day.  Fashion Industry lives and revolves around the expression of human life. It loves to be distinct and unique to describe the individual flavor that everyone owns.

Without any further ado, let me bring you the points to consider while you design awesome textile patterns for your next big project. These points will help you to create the best patterns for your niche. So let’s read it out loud!

  1. Customer is King:

Yeah, just like content is king, the customer is our king.  First and foremost thing to keep in mind is to design patterns that complement the customer’s body. Meaning, It should not accidentally highlight the wrong area or is it unflattering?  The layout should be attractive and balance the other areas.
  2. Remember your Market:

Remember who is your market?  Whom are you catering to? Who is the ultimate buyer?  When you design your pattern, you have to keep in your mind that the idea, concept, design, the color should fit your consumer's ideology.  Why would they buy? And is it fulfilling their expectations?
  3. Check for trends:

It’s important to follow the trends and keep a check on them. Most of the time people buy what they see around and love to keep up with the trend. So if something is out of sync, probability people will avoid buying it. Meeting the demands of the market, what they are seeking for will make your designs more reachable to them. This will also help you to stay out of the box and ahead in the market since you have your interpretation using current trends.  Of course, your design along with trendy touch will be fresh ones in the market and people love fresh and trendy styles.
  4. Maintain the Poise:

If your patterns and colors don’t complement well, it will disturb the balance. While designing make sure that your patterns and colors are balanced such that when a customer comes to buy irrespective of size should be represented the same throughout each piece.  It should be aligned and replicating one another.  This is an important point to be considered while catering women’s garments as they have vivid size and it becomes difficult to maintain the uniformity.
  5. Quality matters:

Create patterns of the highest quality that executes well on fabrics.  Avoid any type of filters. Use linework appropriately that won’t disappear while printing. Emerging in the fashion industry is all about being unique while blending with a trend that will keep you ahead of others and will appeal to your customers to buy one. If they don’t see your hard work and quality that you put in, they will move on to a new one.
  6. Reuse your work:

Sometimes seeing your previous work from different angles will help you open a new world of ideas.  Rather than building something from scratch, you have the skeleton already just need to arrange them in a style you never saw before.
  7. Simplicity works:

At times you are in a hurry to just create a design for your project and with so many ideas gushing at once make you more confused to choose one.  So when in doubt, choose simple concepts.  Just look around, you will find a lot of simple ideas and patterns to follow. Example: pattern of a leaf from the potted plant kept next to your desk. You can just follow geometric shapes in your studio or take a look at the flowers in the vase for simplistic ideas.

Although, each designer follows a set of principles, while designing their awesome sauce, important points considered along the way will guide designers to reach their highest potential. When you take care of the basics, the basics take care of you.
